Matthew has worked since 2006 in greenhouse gas (GHG) accounting and climate change policy appraisal, in consultancy, and in academia.
How does it feel to be selected for the Alumni 100 list?
"It's a great honour. I enjoyed doing my PhD enormously, and so I'm very happy to be part of the 100-year celebration."
What made you choose to study at the University of Edinburgh Business School?
"It's one of the few places in the world, if not the only place, that has academic expertise in carbon accounting—my area of interest."
What are your memories of studying at the Business School?
"It felt like a privilege—I feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity."
What key thing that you learnt at the Business School do you still rely on today?
"Focus on what you really want to achieve, and are really interested in."
Proudest work-related achievement to date?
"Building up an MSc in Carbon Finance."
What's the one thing you think current students need to develop or learn before entering the modern workplace?
"Confidence in their own abilities and critical judgement."
