"I never thought I was comfortable doing business but now I have a whole new perspective", says Adaora Oragudosi, an Entrepreneurship and Innovation Master's graduate from 2018.

Her life as a medic in Nigeria wasn't bringing the excitement she'd hoped for, so when she won the British Chevening Scholarship in 2017, she packed her bags and came to Edinburgh out of curiosity—a need to understand how to turn business ideas into reality.

She learnt a lot, from market research and analysis to how to get funding and work with investors. And she gained experience with different businesses as she worked with a startup, a social enterprise, and a large corporation.

"The best experience was with the startup as it was open, flexible. Then try new things and see what works."

Adaora has been building her experience as a consultant, helping a variety of projects and organisations. She wants to teach entrepreneurism to young people and take that culture back to Nigeria, a place where starting your own business is often seen as a last resort.

"You can't romanticise. It is difficult. And if you've got an amazing 9-5 job you don't have to become an entrepreneur or consultant."
