Two Business School graduates are hoping to set the Edinburgh fashion world alight when they launch their first collection of sustainable style this August.
Sustainable start-up making a mark with upcycled fashions

Justus Delp and Shelly-Ann Gajadhar’s innovative start-up, works with up and coming designers to upcycle pre-loved women’s jackets and turn them into high-fashion pieces.

Justus, a former finance worker from Germany, and Shelly-Ann, a State prosecutor in her native Trinidad and Tobago, came up with the concept while studying on the School’s Masters in International Business and Emerging Markets programme.

With more than 1.5 million tonnes of textile waste each year in the UK alone, the pair saw an opportunity to showcase new designers’ talents while finding a better use for pre-loved clothing.

Having sourced a stock of used women’s jackets from UK charity Shelter, the pair developed their first collection of 15 bespoke pieces with four designers from Trinidad and Tobago.

The collection will be on 13 August, where the founders will be connecting with Edinburgh fashion designers to create their second range.

One Memoir co-founder, Shelly-Ann said;

“We’re really pleased to be returning to Edinburgh to host One Memoir’s official launch. It’s been such a rewarding journey so far and it all started here.

“The concept of upcycling is still relatively unknown in Trinidad and Tobago, so working with designers back there has been a real asset.

“We hope the collection will show it is possible to create beautiful fashion from pre-loved clothes, and raise awareness for sustainable fashion in Edinburgh and beyond.”
