Business School Chair in Accounting, Governance & Social Innovation, Professor Paolo Quattrone, says Jesuit accounting was often superior to the contemporary discipline.

Commenting in the Financial Times, he said accountancy should not just be seen as a way of keeping track of financial transactions, but as a means of reflecting on society’s goals in any given situation.
He said:
The Jesuits translated humanist knowledge into a coherent system of administration and accounting that was functional to the organisation’s quick spread and long-distance control.
